So today at work I heard through the grape vine (that's a lie, I basically heard it directly from the district manager) that they are firing my boss. I can't say that I am sorry to hear this. To be honest I think all of the workers were close to mutiny so it really doesn't shock me. Personally I would like to reenact some of the precious memories I will have of our time together. She certainly has left an impression on my life...
Me- "Nope, I can only work Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays. Otherwise I have class."
Manager- "Oh right."
Me "No I have class. I can only work Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays."
Me- "Nope, I can only work Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays. Otherwise I have class."
This is where I try REALLY R.E.A.L.L.Y. hard not to sarcastically say "Yup! See you tomorrow!" or scream or simply walk out and never come back. This exchange literally lasted months. MONTHS! Until she finally learned my schedule last week. Just in time for her leave. I liked to make up excuses for why she was so completely unable to remember my schedule like "Maybe she has very poor coordination that causes her to trip every night and gives her mild amnesia everyday."
One of my favorite things about my manager is how she would leave during the rush hour and then come back commenting on "how slow it has been today." I gave her the stink eye once when she said this, but I don't think she noticed. I couldn't help it. If I were part dragon I'm pretty sure I would have been breathing fire or at least have had smoke coming out of my nose. Nothing like running around like a crazy person then having someone comment on slow its been after not helping. She always knows how to make my day more special.
The only thing my manger really cares about is how clean the store is. Attracting customers? Naw, they're more annoying than anything else. Making sure there is enough food to sell? The night shift can handle that. Broken machine? She'll tell management, because you know how reliable they are in fixing things in a timely manner. But if she finds a messy counter, she will literally spend 15 minutes cleaning it. This is, of course, while I am busily helping the customers.
But perhaps she is the one who has her priorities straight. I mean who cares if the customers are essentially the ones that pay our checks? A spot on the floor is a much more pressing problem. What if a customer jumped over the counter, looked down and saw that spot?! Surely we would have a much greater complaint about that, as oppose to ignoring them in order to clean the spot.
Now I am absolutely not against all managers. I was transferred over from another store and my manager at the old store was amazing. He worked super hard and really appreciated the hard work of his employees. Its just my current manager I have the tiniest bit of dislike for. I sincerely hope that the district manager wasn't just getting my hopes up in saying he was going to let her go. I've seen the future without her, and it seems much brighter....or at least more organized.
That's all I have to say about that I guess. I really don't give my current manager much thought other than wondering how much smoother things would run if I were in charge. But I will leave that hypothetical situation for another post :) (be prepared: my made up store is amazing....man I need a life).
